Pathetic Paddy Power

Raging at Paddy Power. I haven’t had the most profitable days 2 or 3 at Cheltenham but managed to secure a couple of 2nd place finishes with PP so I thought that this is at least better than nothing (£45 worth of refunds). 24 hours later, no sign of a refund . I decided to use live chat only to be told that my account had been restricted.

There was no email or text to warn me of this. I queried this with them and the person on live chat (who took about 5 minutes to answer each question) just kept giving me a scripted answer stating that due to trading standards they have restricted my account.

The man/woman kept saying that they would have sent me an email to warn about this but there has been absolutely nothing in my inbox or junk folder. I reiterated this but the person kept saying that they could do nothing but offer me a £10 goodwill bet.

I did not accept this due to the size difference from £45 and the principle that they should not be getting away with this.

I was previously banned from doing the bet £20, get a £10 inplay bet on the Football but there was nothing that stated they I was banned from any other offers/promotions.

I will write to IBAS but not getting my hopes up for any success, the person on live chat kept telling me to contact them, probably more because his/her manager was telling them to do this. Has anyone had any success with IBAS?

They credited me with the £10 goodwill bet but have no intention of using this as will argue that the matter is closed if I use it.

Never took it as far to report any bookie, as from my point of view can’t see you having any success but then again I have no clue! For me personally I would just see it as one of those things. In matched betting you are going to lose accounts and have free bets not being paid out etc, small blip in a long profitable road!

IBAS is only really there for mediation of disputes for bet outcomes. I can’t see you having any success – free bets and bonuses are always down to the bookmaker. After all, they always state their right to withhold any bonuses in the terms and conditions. Just be thankful that you’re only losing 2 free bets and move on to other offers!

MC is absolutely right. Has absolutely nothing to do with IBAS. The Gambling Commission is more appropriate but they are about as useful as a chocolate fire guard!

There’s a legal expert over at MSE who claims that term the bookies keep quoting might as well be written on the paper I’ve just wiped with and flushed away if they haven’t told you that you’re banned before entering into a promo with them. The only problem is challenging that term requires way more effort than it’s worth for most regular punters and the bookies know it.

IBAS isn’t just for people who haven’t had their accas paid up, it’s for all betting disputes, free bets included. It should only be used as a last resort though, if the bookie has asked you to contact them and you haven’t and just gone straight to IBAS then you probably won’t get anywhere.

It can also take an absolute age to get the free bet which is why I’ve only ever used it as a tool to warn bookies with, sometimes they pay up straight away and some kick their heels in knowing that it’s way too much hassle for most people to go through to get a free bet.

The legality of refusing to give promotional bets is somewhat irrelevant. There’s no legal obligation for a bookmaker to accept a customer’s bet (although I find this to be unfair). They could give you all the free bets in the world and simply refuse to let you bet them!

I think that, in general, the terms and conditions for promotions are quite vague and this works both ways. The free bets should really be seen as a gesture of goodwill, and therefore the bookmakers do have every right to withhold them – Paddy Power even credit the free bets and denote them as “Goodwill”.

I got banned from all paddy promotions with no notification. The only way i found out was by asking on their messenger when the price boosts wouldnt let me stake anything.
I even phoned them up and they said my account was fine and not restricted!

Turns out that I was actually successful with this which is surprising albeit the decision came 3 months after referring to IBAS.

They credited my account with 2 x £25 free bets (Turned into £40+ profit).

My account is still restricted but writing to IBAS only took about 10 minutes of my time so maybe worth a go if you have no luck with the bookies for anything similar in the future.
