Self exclusion from Pokerstars applied to Paddy Power & Betfair

  • In February, I permanently self-excluded from Pokerstars after a ridiculous bad run. I’ve done this before and then contacted Pokerstars support, who would reactivate my account. However, this time I can’t reverse the self exclusion and more than that, automatically I’ve been permanently self-excluded from Betfair, Paddy Power and Sky Bet (I’m gubbed on there anyway, so not bothered). I only wanted to be self-excluded from Pokerstars, so I was very surprised and disappointed by this.

    I’ve tried to reverse this exclusion but they’re telling me that it’s irreversible. I’ve never had a gambling problem and had been a winner on Pokerstars the previous 3 years.

    It took me repeated attempts to get my money back from the sites above. I had a lot of money on Betfair as I was using it for matched betting, so that was quite stressful, waiting to retrieve my money.

    I thought I would post this to let people know but also, can anyone give advice on how I can get this exclusion reversed?

    Not sure you can, there’s a thread on the betfair forum about the new privacy rules brought in a month or so ago where the bookies as a group would be sharing our data, in our own interests, so they could identify ‘problems’ and part of that privacy rule is that exclusion from one for whatever reason would be exclusion from all.

    Bottom line it’s a reminder not to self-apply any exclusion just because we’re unhappy about the site for whatever reason as it will bite back, think the ladbrokes revised t+c’s said the exclusion would be cross site for 7 years?

    I’m thinking they’ll be using the shared data to identify those of us who are profiting and then closing us down on the basis we are ‘addicted’ due to our turnover, even if it’s clear we are being very disciplined in matched betting or arbing only.

    The project is called ‘GamProtect’.

    If the participating operators identify a customer displaying high-risk behaviours, they pass that information on to GamProtect. GamProtect can then notify the other participating operators so that they can also take necessary action to reduce the potential of that customer coming to harm.

    The information being shared is limited, so I don’t think there’s any greater concern than usual regarding the closing of profitable accounts. GamProtect just enables operators to match up customers that need protecting.
